The Magic Carpet: Stories and Songs from Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt
The epic story of the world’s first superhero, Gilgamesh, deals with the basic qualities of humanity—courage, strength, friendship, loss, betrayal, and death, among others. These same qualities are wrestled with today, but have their template in stories created over 4,500 years ago. The dramatic discovery of the world’s first writing preserved on baked clay tablets in cuneiform, is itself a dramatic tale. This program brings these lost stories to life in story and song and can include the gods and goddesses of ancient Egypt in an engaging interactive program. Listeners will hear of ancient quests, miracles, magic, monsters, villains, and epic battles between good and evil. Replica artifacts, early musical instruments, and period costumes enhance this lively presentation for all ages.Return to the archive listing for IHC Road Scholars Speakers Bureau
