Joe Wark, former Village President and civic-minded resident of Glen Ellyn, embodies daily his community's nickname of "Village of Volunteers" through his volunteer work and leadership. Mr. Wark became Village President by finishing out the term of a former President whom he met while volunteering at a recycling event. During his time as Village President, Mr. Wark implemented numerous beautification improvements in Glen Ellyn, including purchasing blighted properties and creating Spicely Park and Volunteer Park. After his term, Mr. Wark continued his volunteerism as co-chair of the America in Bloom Committee, a group that spearheaded many floral and landscaping improvements throughout Glen Ellyn in preparation for the America in Bloom competition. Mr. Wark is honored with the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award for his work with the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, fundraising for the Society's planned history park at Five Corners. He also serves on the board of the Conservation Foundation, the board of directors of the B.R. Ryall YMCA, and the Civic Betterment Party's Nominating Committee.
