Nominated By The Honorable Tom Jones
Litchfield
Lewis Baney
As a lifelong citizen of the City of Litchfield, Lewis Baney has shown dedication and commitment in his service to his fellow citizens and his community. The city's mayors have reappointed him to Litchfield's Economic Development Council for over 27 years because, as current mayor Tom Jones puts it, Mr. Baney is "such a valuable resource of history yet visionary for future growth and expansion". His willingness to share local folklore and facts has aided geologists working in the region, and he is counted on to provide historical background not only on the activities of Economic Development Council but on the Litchfield Carnegie Library Board as well. Mr. Baney is recognized as a true craftsman in the ironworking profession and has put his skills in the building trade to work for his community. As a Library Board member he worked tirelessly on major renovation projects, including asbestos removal and renovation of the children's level. He also spent many years assisting the Litchfield High School Building Trades Program, working countless volunteer hours with students and the Building Trades Advisory Council. The City of Litchfield is currently benefiting from several graduates of the program.Return to the archive listing for The Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award - 2006
