Nominated By The Honorable Rita Mullins
Palatine
Carol Brandt
Palatine's Carol Brandt, an independent businesswoman specializing in financial planning, is the "consummate volunteer" according to Mayor Rita Mullins, sharing her time and talents with many different organizations and charities. Ms. Brandt was the catalyst for the building of Palatine's Towne Square, which is a focal point for the community and the site of many community events, including local Children's Choir concerts and art shows. She is also a member of the Palatine/Inverness Arts Council (PIAC) and has lent her considerable knowledge and abilities to help secure the preservation of the Patten House, a 105-year-old mansion in the heart of Palatine that PIAC plans to turn into a Cultural Arts Center, providing a space for exhibits, performances, and lessons for all ages. Among her many other volunteer activities, Ms. Brandt has been heavily involved in education in Palatine, serving as the Palatine Chamber of Commerce Scholarship chairwoman for eight years, with the Bridge Youth and Family Services sponsorships and funding programs, hosting an annual 4 of July reception for Palatine dignitaries who are asked to donate school supplies for low-income children, and volunteering her time to Quest Academy, a private school for gifted children.Return to the archive listing for The Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award - 2006
