John and Jane Textor

John and Jane Textor have led and presided over the growth of the Wilmette Historical Society for more than 15 years, contributing thousands of hours of their time, donating substantial funds for various projects, and imparting their passion for and knowledge about local history. As President of the Society since 1994, Mr. Textor chaired a successful $1 million capital campaign to build an addition to the Wilmette Historical Museum in 2000-2004 and has lent his time to many less glamorous activities as well, such as labeling and mailing the Museum members' newsletters. Mrs. Textor is the Museum's Curator of Costumes and Textiles and volunteers a full day once a week at the Museum, cataloging new collections, working on exhibits, and leading tours. Her knowledge of the history of clothing and textiles is well known throughout the community, thanks to the lectures she presents to local organizations on this subject. She also served on the Wilmette Historical Society Board and the Village of Wilmette's Historical Museum Board for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Textor further the humanities in Wilmette by helping to organize special events such as housewalks, antique car shows, and preservation conferences as well as monthly historical lectures. According to Village President Christopher Canning, Mr. and Mrs. Textor "epitomize the idea of service to the community to promote the history of our Village."
