Eligibility & Guidelines: Capitol Forum on America's Future

High school teachers of Political Science, American and World History, American Studies, Government, International Relations, Global Studies and other Social Studies courses are invited to apply. The IHC especially encourages applications from rural and urban high schools in all areas of the state, whether public, private or alternative.

Teachers selected for the program must commit to full participation, including two workshops, the Capitol Forum in Springfield and the Illinois Student Ballot on America's Future. Each will receive three free Choices curriculum units and materials related to the Capitol Forum, copies of the Student Ballot on America's Future and certificates of participation for student representatives.

Teachers also qualify for continuing education units once all obligations have been met.

The Capitol Forum on America's Future meets Illinois standards for Social Science.

Each school pays a $50.00 registration fee. Other costs are supported in part by a grant from the McCormick Tribune Foundation, by the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State and by the Illinois Humanities Council.

The program is coordinated nationally by the Choices for the 21st Century Education Program at Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies.
