Notes

The writers who have contributed their "notes" to this issue of Detours, have very personal relationships to music. Each of them has been deeply involved in the study or production of music for many years. Their subjects range widely -- labor songs, swing, the blues, alternative country, Chinese women, jazz, the devil in music, and the silent music of nature. And their admiration for music and its power to move people shows through in the essays and articles they have written. We wish to thank them all for their generous contributions.
